About
Dr. Renee Hoekstra, Psy.D.
I am a licensed clinical psychologist in the state of Massachusetts.
I have received intensive training in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) in Seattle and I completed a Harvard DBT post-doctorate position here in Boston.
I have a private practice in Stoneham and Back Bay. You can find out more about me on my website: www.bostondbtgroups.com
My intention with this blog is to provide ways in which I see the world by taking the teachings and trainings of my education and giving something that comes from the heart. Some of this is Dialectical Behavior Therapy (when I got this training we were supposed to practice what we preach), so I wouldn’t give you anything here that is teaching for the sake of teaching- rather it is imparting something I believe in.
What I offer is a plethora of my own mindfulness, whether this is awareness of what is going on within the skin, interpersonal awareness, awareness of the universe at large, awareness through the senses- it doesn’t matter. What I give in mindfulness (that I don’t see in other mindfulness blogs) is mindfulness for the audience that would receive my services. The agenda is to provide variety, stillness, creativity, thoughtfulness, and hopefully beyond all a way of freedom from unnecessary suffering.
My commitment for the next year is to get my book “The emotion-phobic user’s guide to handling cartoon elephants” in print so that people will have the visual aid for handling out-of-control stampeding cartoon elephants. (A handy skill, if you ask me).
I have enjoyed your blog for months. I work at a state Vocational Rehabilitation agency and am doing an inservice training on mindfulness and vocational rehabilitation. Can I use some of the material in your blogs?
That would be fine! The blog is public, and I am honored that you want to use my material.
